Donald Trump said he would rather risk imprisonment than comply with a gag order in his on-going criminal trial, just hours after the judge overseeing his criminal hush-money trial threatened to put the former president in jail. “Frankly our Constitution is much more important than jail,” Trump said to press in the hallway of the Manhattan courthouse. “It’s not even close. I’ll do that sacrifice any day.” Justice Juan Merchan on Monday held the former president in contempt for a second time and warned that he faced imprisonment if he broke the gag order that bars him from publicly commenting on jurors,…

Donald Trump’s attorneys have found a new reason to seek to delay the classified documents case: Some of the documents found in boxes at Mar-a-Lago have shifted out of order since FBI agents seized them two years ago. Trump’s attorneys indicated in a filing Monday that the shuffling of documents within boxes in evidence also could be grounds for the case to be tossed. They said they would file a motion to dismiss if the prosecution “cannot prove in a reliable way how it seized and handled the key evidence in the case, which will be a central issue at any trial.” Special…

Looking for Monday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Sunday we had super high winds followed by a major rain and hail storm. Then Monday it was bright blue sky, milder wind. It’s a bit of a sad week, however, as actor Bernard Hill—who played Theoden in The Lord Of The Rings—passed away. Hill played Theoden, the King of Rohan and Lord of the Mark or of the Riddermark. He’s at first under the wicked…

Israel launched a volley of strikes in the Gazan city of Rafah and said it would continue military operations there, even as the Biden administration has openly warned against the launch of any large-scale mission in the city without civilian protections. In response to a Sunday attack by Hamas on Israel, Israel on Monday ordered 100,000 people to evacuate a section of eastern Rafah, leading the Biden administration to fear Israel was speeding up its timetable for a Rafah invasion. In the hours following, the Israel Defense Forces said they were bombing the southern Gaza city — Hamas’ last stronghold — both…

Sen. Bob Menendez will be allowed to argue at his federal corruption trial that he thought he was acting for the “good of the public” when helping Egypt and Qatar, while prosecutors will be able to present evidence to the jury that they allege shows the lawmaker and his wife took bribes in a scheme involving the foreign governments to fund their lavish lifestyle. Judge Sidney Stein set those general perimeters at a hearing Monday in federal court in New York, where he outlined how he wants the high-profile trial to run. The trial of Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat,…

At his annual shareholder meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, the 93 year-old co-founder, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway issued a stark warning about the potential dangers of the technology. “We let a genie out of the bottle when we developed nuclear weapons,” he said Saturday. “AI is somewhat similar — it’s part way out of the bottle.” The so-called Oracle of Omaha acknowledged to his audience that he has little idea about the tech behind AI, but said he still fears its potential repercussions. His image and voice were recently replicated by an…

National anti-doping regulators such as CHINADA are supposed to closely monitor athletes in competition and training for evidence of illegal drug-taking, while WADA — which is funded by the Olympic Movement and national governments — coordinates anti-doping rules across the world.   “The Chinese aren’t being held to those same standards by their own national anti-doping agency and then the World Anti-Doping Agency, that is supposed to be the great equalizer and ensure the rules are enforced fairly around the world, is OK with the Chinese not following the rules and effectively swept it under the carpet,” Tygart said. CHINADA…

Americans’ Social Security benefits will be slashed in 2035 if lawmakers don’t act to address the pending shortfall, according to an annual report released Monday by the Social Security trustees. That’s one year later than previously forecast. After that, payroll tax revenue and other income sources will only be able to cover 83% of benefits owed. Meanwhile, Medicare’s financial condition improved even more. It is expected to be able to cover…
